Hon. Wisdom Seade and his team of technocrats continued their community interaction at four key electoral areas: Kedzikope, Keta Central, Adzido, and Vodza.
Residents across these communities warmly welcomed the MCE and his team, expressing heartfelt appreciation for the initiative. They commended the Assembly for bringing governance closer to the people and creating a platform for open dialogue.
Many called for such engagements to continue, emphasizing how it gives them the chance to directly voice their challenges and offer suggestions for lasting solutions.
During the open forum, the concerns raised by residents across the various communities were both diverse and pressing. Common requests included the installation of streetlights, rehabilitation of town roads, creation of job opportunities for the youth, and stronger protection of the coastline against tidal waves.
Residents also advocated for strict enforcement of local laws, especially to curb illegal fishing practices by non-indigenous fishermen encroaching on local waters.
In Kedzikope, residents made a strong case for the inclusion of the Lagoon road and Sankara Junction in the development plan. They also appealed for the acceleration of the WACA Project, which seeks to address climate resilience and coastal erosion.
At Keta Central, community members urged the MCE to prioritize the revival of the historic Keta Market. Key requests included the completion of uncompleted stalls, construction of proper drainage systems, rehabilitation of the road network around the market, and improved security around the Nursing Training School. Other calls included the promotion of beach tourism and the construction of Zion School bridge.
In Adzido and Vodza, concerns focused on both social and infrastructure challenges. These included scholarship support for brilliant but needy students, creation of job opportunities, tightened security to curb theft by idle youth, and the expansion of electricity to the Aflasco area.
Residents also requested a community center, public toilet facilities to prevent open defecation, and the fencing and provision of a staff common room for the local school.
In response, Hon Seade expressed gratitude to the residents for their frank submissions and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to taking every concern seriously. He assured them that all requests would be considered and factored into the Municipality’s Medium-Term Development Plan.
He also reminded residents of their shared responsibility in community development, especially in maintaining clean beaches to enhance tourism and attract investment. He further announced that a sanitation day would be launched in Anlo-Afiadenyigba this June, encouraging all communities to actively participate.
The engagement also featured remarks from ASP Maxwell Agyemang, the Keta Divisional Police Commander. He cautioned residents to remain vigilant and prioritize security in their daily lives. ASP Agyemang raised concerns about the increasing rate of substance abuse, particularly among the youth, and warned against the Municipality becoming a hub for criminal activities, including the trafficking of narcotic substances through transit points in Vodza, Adzido, and Keta.
He reminded the public that the law is no respecter of persons, and offenders will be dealt with according to the law, especially concerning illegal fishing and sand winning.
