As part of ongoing technical backstopping and monitoring responsibilities, the Regional Environmental Health Officer (REHO), Madam Stella Kumedzro, and her team visited the Keta Municipal Assembly today.

The visit aimed to strengthen field operations, assess staff performance, and reinforce the national sanitation agenda.

During the visit, REHO held durbar sessions with Environmental Health staff, commending them for their dedication and encouraging them to intensify efforts in promoting environmental health and sanitation in the municipality. She stressed the need to curb staff absenteeism, urging officers to demonstrate discipline and commitment. REHO also highlighted the President’s renewed focus on sanitation as a national priority and called on staff to proactively prepare for upcoming sanitation initiatives.

A management meeting was held with the leadership of the Assembly. REHO congratulated the MCE for his collaborative leadership with Environmental Health Units and reiterated her team’s commitment to supporting the sanitation drive. She appealed for logistical and mobility support to enhance field operations and stressed the need to equip Environmental Health staff with the tools required for effective service delivery.

In line with the monitoring objectives, the team conducted inspections of selected facilities to assess compliance with Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) standards. Facilities visited included a bread production facility, a hotel, and a sachet water manufacturing company. WASH facilities at each location were thoroughly assessed, and technical advice was given to management where necessary.

The team also visited the Keta market, engaged traders, and observed sanitation practices within the market environment.

REHO expressed appreciation to Mr. Jerry Ziddah, Dean of MDEHOs and Municipal Environmental Health Officer for Keta, for his impactful leadership and technical guidance. She also commended the dedication and professionalism of Environmental Health staff in the municipality.

In conclusion, the visit provided an opportunity to identify operational gaps, boost staff motivation, and strengthen collaboration. REHO reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the municipality  in achieving improved sanitation outcomes and encouraged all staff to work collectively towards a cleaner, healthier environment
