In a renewed commitment to environmental conservation and climate action, the Keta Municipal Assembly officially launched the Tree For Life 2025 initiative on Thursday, June 3, 2025, at Tsiame. Led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Wisdom Seade, the event drew participation from the Forestry Commission District Commander, Mr. Joseph Osei Sakyi, the Assembly Member, traditional leaders, students, and the vibrant people of Tsiame.

The launch, highlighted by a symbolic tree-planting exercise, set the stage for a broader agenda aimed at restoring degraded landscapes, enhancing green cover, and safeguarding the sustainability of the environment and wildlife habitats.

In his address, Hon. Wisdom Seade emphasized the urgent need to reverse environmental degradation caused by human activities. He described the Earth as a beautiful creation of God but warned that without decisive action to restore forest reserves and protect wildlife, future generations would suffer the consequences.

“We must remember that when the last tree dies, the last man dies,” the MCE declared, urging citizens to see tree planting not as a one-off event but as a shared responsibility.

He called on teachers, parents, and community leaders to instill the culture of tree planting in the youth, noting that cultivating this habit would nurture environmentally responsible citizens committed to protecting the nation’s natural heritage.

The Forestry Commission, partnering with the Assembly for the exercise, supplied over 1,000 seedlings of shade, economic, and ornamental trees for planting across schools, public spaces, and selected community sites.

Mr. Sakyi underscored the vital role of trees in purifying the air, preventing erosion, supporting wildlife, and combating climate change, appealing to residents to nurture and protect the planted trees.

The event ended on a lively note, with community leaders and schoolchildren enthusiastically participating in the planting exercise.
