The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, together with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Keta, Hon. Wisdom Seade, paid a working visit to the Amugo-Vego Traditional Council, led by Torgbui Tenge Dzokoto Gligui VII, to strengthen collaboration and promote participatory governance.

During the visit, Hon. Gunu expressed appreciation to the chiefs and queen mothers for their courtesy call last year and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to regular engagement with traditional authorities. He reiterated the directive for all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to participate in traditional council meetings to provide updates on development activities, in line with the governance vision of H.E. John Dramani Mahama.

The Regional Minister emphasized the urgency of development in the Volta Region and urged traditional leaders to help resolve chieftaincy disputes that could hinder progress and discourage investment. He also announced that the long-standing water supply challenge in Anyako and surrounding communities has been resolved, with plans underway for the official commissioning of the project.

Hon. Wisdom Seade highlighted key development interventions in the municipality and expressed concern about indiscipline in some communities. He appealed to traditional authorities to support efforts to promote good character and discipline, especially among the youth.

On sanitation, the MCE announced the introduction of a Sanitation Crusade Programme, alongside the President’s national sanitation initiative. The programme will support communities with training and tools to promote healthy competition and improved sanitation practices.

To address teacher shortages and improve educational outcomes, the Assembly has also established a Teacher Support Fund to complement government efforts.

The delegation further called on traditional leaders to support cultural tourism as a means of boosting local economic development.

The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between the Keta Municipal Assembly and traditional authorities in advancing development and improving the welfare of residents. The team also paid a surprise visit to the Aborlove-Nolopi CHPS Compound to assess ongoing service delivery.
