Keta Municipal Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) engaged churches in the southern part of Keta to promote disaster risk reduction and preparedness.

The meeting aimed to equip church leaders and their congregations with practical knowledge and strategies to manage potential disasters within their premises and surrounding communities.

During the session, NADMO highlighted the need for heightened preparedness following recent warnings by the Ghana Meteorological Agency about possible thunderstorms, windstorms, and heavy rainfall in the coming season. Participants were guided through key safety measures and proactive steps to reduce disaster risks.

Churches were encouraged to:

  • Install fire extinguishers on their premises
  • Maintain well-stocked first aid boxes
  • Form disaster volunteer groups within their congregations
  • Organize community clean-up exercises, especially desilting gutters to prevent flooding
  • Regularly educate members on disaster preparedness and safety

The engagement was highly interactive, with participants expressing satisfaction with the training. Church representatives also pledged to implement the recommended measures in their respective churches and communities.

Keta NADMO expressed appreciation to all participants for their active involvement and reaffirmed its commitment to continuous community engagement to safeguard lives and property across the municipality.
