Mr. Christopher Mensah has been unanimously retained as the Presiding Member (PM) of the Keta Municipal Assembly, securing a second consecutive term in office.
The election, witnessed by all 34 Assembly Members, municipal officials, traditional leaders, and key stakeholders, was conducted in accordance with Section 17 of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act 936), which requires a presiding member to be elected by a two-thirds majority of members present and voting.
Mr. Mensah, who ran unopposed, received a 100 percent endorsement from the Assembly Members, demonstrating strong confidence in his leadership and stewardship over the period.
Officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) supervised the process, with the results officially declared by the Municipal Director of the EC, Madam Debbie Janet Akpaloo.
Among the dignitaries present were the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Seth Kpodji; the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Wisdom Seade; and other senior officials of the Keta Municipal Assembly.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mensah expressed gratitude to the Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to lead with an open mind and fairness, and to make himself available to support the work of the Assembly. He also assured members that he would provide a platform for constructive deliberations on issues that will promote the development of Keta.
“I am deeply honoured by this unanimous endorsement. I pledge to continue working hand in hand with all development stakeholders, traditional authorities, and community members to advance the growth and prosperity of the municipality. Together, we will ensure that our communities benefit from inclusive development and improved governance,” he affirmed.
The re-election of Mr. Mensah is widely seen as a vote of confidence in his commitment to participatory governance and development-oriented leadership. Stakeholders have expressed optimism that his tenure will further strengthen the municipality’s institutional frameworks and community engagement initiatives.
Mr. Mensah is a professional teacher at Keta Adzido School. He previously served as the Assembly Member for the Adzido Electoral Area before being elected Presiding Member of the Assembly in 2024
