The Keta Municipal Assembly has taken bold step toward promoting inclusivity and economic empowerment by supporting 14 persons with disabilities and their caregivers with start-up kits and financial assistance to expand their livelihoods.

The support package, facilitated through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, was officially presented on March 11, 2026, and funded through the 3% allocation of the District Assemblies’ Common Fund (DACF) reserved for persons with disabilities.

Beneficiaries received a variety of items to enhance their income-generating activities, including deep freezers, irrigation machines, industrial sewing machines, and other essential tools. The selection process followed a thorough needs assessment and approval by the Disability Fund Management Committee to ensure that assistance was directed to the most deserving applicants.

Speaking at the presentation, the Municipal Chief Executive for Keta, Hon. Wisdom Seade, encouraged the beneficiaries to make effective use of the support to improve their economic conditions. He reminded them that “disability is not inability,” adding that the Assembly would monitor the projects to ensure the resources are utilized productively.

The Head of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Fred Selorm Kasu, together with the Unit Head of Social Welfare, Mr. Robert Kotey Ashie, also urged other applicants to remain patient, assuring them that more beneficiaries would be considered in the next phase of the disbursement.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chairman of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Godwin Etsey Adzifome, called on all persons with disabilities in the municipality to register with their local branches or the Social Welfare Unit to enable them access similar support programmes in the future.

The initiative underscores the Assembly’s commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and ensuring that all residents have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of the municipality.

This life-changing support is expected to help beneficiaries become more economically independent while promoting greater inclusion within communities across the Keta Municipality.
