Keta, Volta Region | 6th August 2026 – The Keta Municipal Assembly, through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, has successfully organized the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD) Representative Election for the Keta Municipality under the theme, “Strengthening Disability Inclusion Through Democratic Representation and Effective Advocacy.”
The election, held at the Keta Municipal Assembly Hall on Thursday, 6th August 2026, brought together delegates from various Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), representatives of disability groups, stakeholders, members of the Electoral and Organizing Committee, and invited dignitaries to democratically elect new municipal representatives of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations.
Representing the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Saviour Agbeviade welcomed participants and commended the commitment of delegates to promoting inclusive leadership. He expressed confidence that the election would be conducted in a peaceful, transparent and credible manner.
Speaking at the programme, the Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Mr. Fred Selorm Kasu, described the election as a significant milestone in promoting the active participation of persons with disabilities in local governance and decision-making. He emphasized that persons with disabilities are key partners in development and that their voices must continue to shape policies, programmes and decisions that affect their lives.
As part of the programme, participants received an educational presentation on effective advocacy for disability organizations by Mr. Godwin Kumah of the Eye to Eye Foundation. Madam Elikplim Klu Afua, Volta Regional President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations, also briefed delegates on the GFD Constitution, election guidelines and the responsibilities of municipal representatives.
Three teams contested the election: Team Cherita Kudoda, Team Godsway Mensah and Team Marshall Degbey. After a transparent voting and counting process, Team Godsway Mensah secured 16 votes, while Team Cherita Kudoda and Team Marshall Degbey each obtained 10 votes. Mr. Godsway Mensah was subsequently declared President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations (GFD), Keta Municipality.
The newly elected executive team comprises:

- Vice President: Miss Sandra Doamekpor
- Youth Representative: Mr. Elorm Tamakloe
- Gender Representative: Madam Peace Sabah
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mensah expressed appreciation to delegates and members of the various Organizations of Persons with Disabilities for the confidence reposed in him and his team. He pledged to foster unity among all disability groups, strengthen advocacy efforts, and work closely with former executives and stakeholders to advance the welfare of persons with disabilities within the municipality. He further reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for improved access to opportunities, including the effective utilization of the 3% Disability Fund allocation.
The Unit Head of the Department of Social Welfare, Mr. Robert Kotey Ashie, encouraged the newly elected executives to serve with dedication, integrity and accountability while strengthening collaboration and communication among disability organizations across the municipality.
Chairman of the Social Services Sub-Committee, Hon. Noah Yao Agbemazi, congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to prioritize unity, emphasizing that a united disability movement would be better positioned to mobilize resources, engage stakeholders and advocate effectively for improved opportunities and services for persons with disabilities.
