The Keta National Disaster Management Organization on Friday, engaged members of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Keta District, on disaster preparedness. The session took place during their Missionary Mass Meeting at the Living Hope Society, Tegbi Ashiata.

The Keta NADMO Director Mr. Setso Wonder used the opportunity to educate participants on how to prepare for disasters, especially as the rainy season approaches. Members were advised to pay close attention to weather conditions such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms.

Participants were also taken through simple steps to reduce risks in their homes and communities. These included clearing gutters to prevent flooding, identifying safe shelters, securing roofing sheets, and cutting down weak trees that could cause damage during storms.

Fire safety was also discussed during the engagement. Participants were educated on the proper handling and safe placement of gas cylinders to prevent fire outbreaks in homes and workplaces.

The session also highlighted the vulnerability of women and children during disasters. Participants were encouraged to take active roles in promoting safety in their homes and communities. They were also encouraged to volunteer and support the work of Keta NADMO in building resilient communities.

Keta NADMO expressed appreciation to Rev. Godson Kwabla Ocloo, Presiding Elder of the A.M.E. Zion Church, Keta District, Miss Aurelia Tudzi, District President of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, and the leadership of the Society for the invitation and warm reception.

Keta NADMO further encouraged churches, institutions, fishermen, dressmakers, hairdressers, and community groups to invite the organization for similar educational engagements.

The engagement formed part of efforts to promote disaster preparedness and build safer communities across the Keta Municipality.
