The Keta Municipal Assembly, through its Environmental Health Unit, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, has successfully supported the mass burial of seven (7) unidentified and unclaimed bodies at the Abor Sacred Heart Hospital Morgue, Abor.

The exercise, was undertaken to ensure the safe, dignified, and lawful disposal of the bodies in accordance with public health, environmental sanitation, and legal requirements.

The burial exercise was witnessed and supervised by key stakeholders, including the Abor District Commander of the Ghana Police Service, officers of the Ghana Police Service at Abor, Environmental Health Officers, the Assembly Member for the Abor Electoral Area, Unit Committee Members, and community labourers who supported the burial process.

Prior to the burial, the Ghana Police Service carried out the necessary verification and documentation processes to ensure that all legal requirements had been fulfilled before the bodies were released for burial.

The Environmental Health Officers supervised the entire exercise to ensure compliance with environmental health and sanitation standards. The Assembly Member and Unit Committee Members also monitored the process to promote transparency, community participation, and accountability.

With the support of six (6) labourers from Abor, the bodies were carefully transported, the burial site was prepared, and the burial was conducted in a respectful and dignified manner. All participants adhered to the required health, safety, and environmental protocols throughout the exercise.

The mass burial exercise was successfully completed without any incident and was carried out in a peaceful and orderly manner through the collective efforts of the Ghana Police Service, Environmental Health Unit, Assembly Member, Unit Committee Members, and community members.

The successful completion of the exercise has helped to decongest the Abor Sacred Heart Hospital Morgue, safeguard public health, and ensure that the unidentified and unclaimed bodies were laid to rest with dignity in accordance with established legal and environmental health procedures.
