The Keta Municipal Assemblythrough the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has officially inaugurated the Persons Living with Albinism Association (PLWA) in the municipality, marking a significant milestone in promoting the rights, inclusion, and well-being of Persons Living with Albinism.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Keta Municipal Health Directorate Conference Room, brought together Persons Living with Albinism, officials of the Keta Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Health Directorate, members of the Disability Fund Management Committee, development partners, and other key stakeholders committed to disability inclusion.

In his remarks on the purpose of the gathering, Mr. Robert Kotey Ashie, Unit Head of the Department of Social Welfare, stated that the formation of the association provides a formal platform for Persons Living with Albinism to organize themselves, advocate for their rights, and actively participate in decision-making processes affecting their lives. He added that the association would strengthen access to support services and createopportunities for members to participate in future Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) elections and other leadership roles.

The programme featured a keynote address from the Municipal Coordinating Director’s representative Mr. Saviour Agbeviade, an address by the Southern Volta Coordinator of the Ghana Association of Persons with Albinism (GAPA), Mr. Mensah Djadoo, and a health education session on skin care and eye protection. The ceremony concluded with the official swearing-in of the association’s executives and members.

Stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Persons Living with Albinism while promoting equal opportunities, social inclusion, and access to essential services. The Keta Municipal Assembly pledged continued collaboration with the association to advance disability inclusion and ensure that no one is left behind in the municipality’s development agenda.
