An intersectoral stakeholders’ meeting aimed at enhancing collaboration and service delivery across the Keta Municipality was successfully held on Tuesday.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Emmanuel Gemegah, in his opening remarks, emphasized the significance of the meeting in planning, evaluating, and improving service delivery in line with Section 81 of the Local Governance Act 2016, Act 936. The Act mandates cooperation between Assemblies, centralized departments, and public institutions in the development of districts. He encouraged active participation and highlighted some of the Assembly’s achievements over the past year.

One of the notable presentations came from Mr. Francis Susuawu of the National Youth Authority, who introduced the Youth Africa Innovates (YAI) Programme. Backed by the UNDP and MasterCard Foundation, the initiative seeks to scout and support 200 young innovators from the Volta Region, focusing on youth-led, community-driven solutions. Special consideration will be given to women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups.

Mr. Emmanuel Kona of the Municipal Health Directorate outlined key achievements and persistent challenges in the health sector. Improvements in Vitamin A coverage and operationalization of new health units such as the Infectious Disease Centre and Renal Dialysis Unit at Keta Municipal Hospital were reported. However, high adolescent pregnancy rates, staff attrition, and limited surveillance resources remain concerns.

The Principal of the Keta Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Mrs. Mabel Kafui Torku, presented on admissions and infrastructure challenges, appealing for community and governmental support to improve facilities and student accommodations.

Mr. Lawrence Tetteh Ocloo from the Forestry Commission discussed the environmental significance of mangrove restoration as part of the WACA project, urging community support to protect Keta’s fragile ecosystem.

Additionally, Mr. Ibrahim Sumani of the National Service Scheme highlighted accommodation issues for personnel in the Municipality, affecting the scheme’s operations.

In education, Madam Patience Dogbey reported on improvements in supervision and performance, including restructuring of basic schools and planned mock exams under the new curriculum.

The meeting, which fostered meaningful dialogue among stakeholders, concluded at 2:00 pm with a closing prayer by Jasmine Awurasie, Head of the Client Service Unit.
