The Keta Municipal Assembly has demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity and social welfare by extending financial and material support worth 100,470 Ghana cedis to 42 persons with disabilities within the municipality. The initiative, aimed at improving the living conditions and economic independence of beneficiaries, forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to promote social equity and empower vulnerable groups.
The beneficiaries of the support package comprised 20 men and 22 women, carefully selected to receive assistance tailored to meet their individual needs and circumstances. The intervention included both cash grants and essential physical items designed to enhance their livelihoods and daily lives.
Among the items distributed were six hand-sewing machines, two deep freezers, a laptop computer, and an irrigation machine — all intended to boost income-generating activities and provide sustainable sources of livelihood. In addition, cash disbursements ranged from 300 cedis for the lowest beneficiary to 4,000 cedis for the highest, based on the assessed needs and business plans of the recipients.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, municipal officials reaffirmed the Assembly’s dedication to fostering an inclusive society where persons with disabilities are empowered to lead dignified and independent lives. They emphasized that the initiative not only addresses immediate needs but also encourages self-sufficiency and economic participation.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Keta Municipal Assembly for the timely intervention, noting that the support would significantly enhance their personal and economic well-being. The Assembly assured the community of its continued commitment to prioritizing social welfare programs that uplift marginalized groups and promote inclusive local development.
