As the rainy season approaches, the Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit of the Keta Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Assembly Member, Unit Committee Members, and opinion leaders of the Vui community, organized a communal labour exercise on 22nd February and 31st March 2025. The exercise aimed to enhance environmental sanitation and prevent potential public health risks. It was supervised by Environmental Health Officers from the Assembly and actively supported by students on practical attachment from the School of Hygiene, Ho.
Key activities included clearing refuse dump sites and desilting choked gutters along the main streets. Community members turned out in good numbers, responding positively to the call for communal service. Equipped with tools such as wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, and brooms, volunteers worked together to remove accumulated waste and improve drainage in the area.
Environmental Health Officers provided technical guidance and public health education throughout the exercise, while the students gained valuable hands-on experience in environmental sanitation management. The Assembly Member commended the collaborative effort and encouraged residents to maintain the momentum, emphasizing the importance of regular communal activities to safeguard public health, particularly as the rainy season poses increased sanitation-related risks
